| About Jess |
Hello!
I am a freelance contractor and consultant based in Anchorage, Alaska. My career spans fifteen years working with organizations and communities to untangle complicated problems, build effective and collaborative solutions, and enact positive change. I've been described as a skilled facilitator, systems thinker, empathetic communicator, and creative problem solver. I am analytical, seek data and information-driven inputs to decision making, and I craft questions that help groups and organizations dig deep, see things differently, and have meaningful dialogue.
I have worked extensively with community, tribal, and governmental organizations and in nonprofit management. I’ve been on the governance side too, serving on numerous boards and councils, including leadership positions. A [mostly] lifelong Alaskan with Interior roots, I care deeply about this place and the people here. I have had the privilege of working in over forty villages and communities and believe we have some of the most beautiful places, incredible people, and unique connections.
Speaking of, I love making connections – between issues, people, and organizations. I learned a long time ago I’m not cut out for too narrow a focus. I find great joy and satisfaction in finding what can be learned from and shared with one another and working in these intersections.
I have a master’s degree in Public Management from Johns Hopkins University and a bachelor's degree in Communication and Conflict Management from Pacific Lutheran University.
I love being a mom to three young kids and am proud to be a military spouse (lucky to be permanently in Alaska!). You’ll often find me playing outside with my family and friends, occasionally jamming on my upright bass, and always up for getting together for a cup of coffee.
